Jeffrey M. Stone was an extraordinarily talented athlete. At a very early age, Jeff was a top-notch competitive ski racer and tennis player. At 11 he won national recognition from Sports Illustrated in their "Faces in the Crowd" section. At 14 he was ranked #1 in New England in Junior Boys Singles and Doubles in tennis and raced in the #1 seeded position for the Mt. Mansfield Ski Club team.
At South Burlington High School, Jeff played varsity soccer and was the State High School Tennis Champion. As a post-graduate at Phillips Andover Academy, he won the New England Interscholastic Singles Championship. At the University of Vermont, Jeff played #1 on the tennis team for three years. As a young adult, Jeff was fluent in several languages, enabling him to teach tennis and skiing internationally, primarily to children.
The son of Carol and Barry Stone, and the brother of Judy Mallory, Jeff is most often remembered for much more than his gifted athletic abilities: Jeff is remembered as a sensitive and caring person, a dedicated teacher, and a good friend.

The Jeff Stone Foundation was formed in July of 1984 to pay tribute to a young man who was an exemplary human being. Through his leadership and example, Jeff made significant contributions to athletics and to the sport of tennis in particular. The purpose of the Foundation is to raise scholarship funds for Vermont youths interested in tennis. We seek those in need of financial assistance who exhibit promise, dedication, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship.
