Bud Shultz is one of the finest New England tennis players ever. Bud was a star basketball and tennis player at Bates College. At 6'4", 220 lbs., he has a powerful serve and volley game accompanied by speed and finesse. After graduation, Bud opted for a professional tennis career. He made an immediate impression by winning his very first tournament on the Texas Satellite Circuit . Soon thereafter, Bud started making his mark on the major Pro Tour. He played worldwide for seven years, including the four Grand Slam tournaments, and ranked as high as 30th in the ATP ranking in 1978.
After leaving the Circuit, Bud served as the head pro at the Longwood Cricket Club in Boston for almost fifteen years. He and his wife, Elaine, now own and operate the Cohasset Indoor Tennis Club. In 1997, Bud won the national 35 and over Grass Court Championship in singles, and the following year he and Ned Eames won the 35 and Over Grass Court Championship in doubles. Bud was recently inducted into the New England Tennis Hall of Fame.
Krassi Atanasov The defending men's singles champion, Krassi hails from Sofia, Bulgaria. At 6'5" this southpaw possesses a powerful serve, coupled with crisp and very deep groundstrokes. Krassi will be receiving his degree soon from one of Bulgaria's leading universities, and hopes to find a job in the United States, where he can combine his business interest with the opportunity to continue to play in some tournaments.
Larry Turville Over the past two decades this 6'7" giant has one more than twenty gold balls, the prize the USTA hands out for winning a National Championship. At 57, Larry is currently ranked #2 in the world in the 55 and over division. A Native Floridian, Larry's dad, Edward Turville, a former President of the USLTA and U.S. Davis Cup Capitan, taught Larry to play at an early age. Larry is still going strong after nearly fifty years. A former coach of 18 years at Rice University in Houston, Texas, Larry is teaching this summer at Windridge/Teela-Wooket.
